You know, getting older, I'm more and more lazy and (very) well organized. This is why, once again, this month, I do not write for you my friends, someone else did it for me. Yes, I've asked an other biker to write an article for you. Let me introduce my road mate Nicholas Mac Bride, a Briton in Paris. France is a... nice place, and when compared to the States a small place too; a place where food and wine are considered religiously, one can also see it as a place that recently lost its AAA; a place that sees striking as a national sport...But also, and most certainly, the place in the world with the best motorway infrastructure.
You can cross it, from North to South, in a day... So what about riding? I mean; one can get to know the country real well pretty quickly or if you prefer, it doesn't seem to be the place a Frenchman would go on a discovery run; actually now that I have said that... France shows a variety of landscape, from the flat lands up North to the Alps in the south east, a fantastic Atlantic coast to the West and extraordinary Riviera South; with the whole of its eastern flank open to continental Europe... The place is definitely worth a ride. When I bought my first Harley, back in 2003, an XL883R Sportster, I had no idea of the world I was entering. I'd had no idea of what MC would stand for; and meeting fellow bikers would always bring to me the same question as when I would meet on a day-off; a colleague from work... Are all these guys genuine? Some choose to ride in large groups, some are more of a lone wolf, I personally enjoy riding in small groups, 4-5 seeming to fit with me. I am from Ireland, a Brit from Belfast, with the major regret of not having joined her Majesty's military forces. Back in 2003, I was probably in need of some “brotherhood” relationship; the one where you move forward as a team, caring and relying on the bloke standing (riding) next to you. I believe I have found what I was looking for, in sharing today, with those I ride with something special based on concern, respect, something that bounds us together... My idea of riding? Well weather permitting I'll bring the bikes out all year round; and maybe shoot-off over the weekends... Living in the Paris region (France) I'll prefer the 45 minutes on my bike to the 1 hour 30 it would take me to get to work by car. It's pretty widespread over here to plan a major annual ride, and that's how back in 2008, I rode my newly purchased Softail around northern Italy; 2009 saw my son and ride north, far beyond the polar circle to the Nordkapp (Norway) on a +5.000 mile run; in 2010 a buddy and I completed the Iron Butt (IBA) first stage: the saddle sore 1000 (with Hervé); 2011 brought us to Croatia in May, and Faaker See (Austria) in September for the bike week that gathered 80.000. I had already crossed the Pyrenees on the Sportster in 2006 on a journey that took me through Spain to Gibraltar, I rode my bike for the first time on Irish roads in 2005... Told you Europe is a small place when compared to Northern America, and France is a place worth discovering. Nicholas |

Bikers-globe.com, dédié à la "biker culture", au monde des Harley et autres custom bikes, édite le premier livre de l'un de ses membres sur la Daytona Bike Week intitulé "Ma Daytona Bike Week à moi !", par Hervé REBOLLO.
Hervé REBOLLO, biker passionné, s'attache à nous raconter LA bike week hors des sentiers battus, celle méconnue du grand public. Il nous propose ainsi un véritable carnet de voyage illustré de près de 400 photos et de très nombreux commentaires dont il revendique totalement la subjectivité. Tout débute avec l'Équipée sauvage...
Au milieu des années 70, alors qu'il n'a pas 10 ans, Hervé visionne, par hasard à la télévision, le film "L'Équipée sauvage", avec Lee Marvin et Marlon Brando. Les acteurs, leur attitude, leurs vêtements et surtout leurs incroyables motocyclettes, vont littéralement émerveiller le petit garçon. Jamais il n'avait vu pareille chose ici, en son Berry natal. D'ailleurs, le lendemain, on ne parle plus que de ça dans la cours de récré. Le gamin est irrévocablement conquis.
Des centaines de milliers de kilomètre parcours...
Cette conquête le mènera à l'acquisition de sa première Electra Glide 1340 à la fin des années 80. Aujourd'hui, 22 Harley-Davidson plus tard, Hervé détient plusieurs records d'endurance sur route avec l'Iron Butt Association, écrit également tous les mois pour le New-York Rider Magazine (il a même déjà été publié en France dans Freeway). Il est aussi à la tête de l'une des collections les plus importantes d'Europe de figurines et modèles réduits de bikers en Harley/Indian. Il parcourt sans cesse les routes de France, d'Europe et d'ailleurs sur sa moto.
La Daytona Bike Week était donc l'un des événements incontournables qu'Hervé se devait de vivre. "Ma Daytona Bike Week à moi ! Un voyage au-delà du reportage magazine", parcourt en une cinquantaine de courts chapitres la Daytona Bike Week de fond en comble et s'attache surtout à raconter cette Week méconnue du grand public, celle dont on ne parle pas ou peu dans les magazines. Plus qu'un carnet de voyage, ce livre est aussi un véritable guide pratique des coulisses de cet événement. Il s'adresse à tous ceux qui rêvent de se rendre à Daytona pour participer à cette Bike Week devenue mythique mais aussi à ceux qui la connaissent déjà, qui retrouveront ici de bons souvenirs et découvriront très certainement nombre d'éléments qui auraient pu leur échapper.
